Mr. Montevideo began his higher education studies at Seattle University, where he studied Business Administration from 2000-2001. Before joining DiMarco | Araujo | Montevideo, Mr. Montevideo honed his legal skills in a variety of practice settings, including private defense firms, private plaintiff firms and public service in the government sector via the Department of Justice.

In 2008, John Michael worked with the Department of Justice; Environmental and Natural Resources Division; Environmental Enforcement Section in Washington, D.C. in 2008. Mr. Montevideo worked with the litigation team drafting complex civil litigation decrees, motions and opinion memoranda in federal court regarding various legal issues, including the enforcement of CERCLA, RCRA, NRD, CWA, etc.

In 2007, he clerked with Girardi and Keese in Los Angeles, CA drafting litigation discovery, motions and opinion memoranda in state and federal court, including work with class actions, mass torts, business litigation and personal injury generally.
In 2006, he was an Intellectual Property Research Assistant for Howard University School of Law for Prof. Lateef Mtima, J.D., where he had research input with the article entitled “So Dark the CON(TU) of Man: The Quest for the Derivative Work Right Grail for Computer Software Programs.”

Also in 2006, John Michael worked with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd in Greenville, SC as a Summer Associate dealing with legal issues involving medical malpractice, real estate, bonds, construction, and immigration.

Leadership, Membership & Honors

Mr. Montevideo is an active member of Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) and is currently serving as Co-Chair of the New Lawyers Division during 2009-2010. The goal of CAOC is to seek justice for all consumers and promote advocacy through training and education. He is also a member of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA), the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA). He is also a Team Member of the Future Leaders of Our Community (FLOC).

Interests & Hobbies

His interests include: running, family, home restoration, backpacking, body surfing and social justice issues. An interesting work history tidbit includes his work on the Major Motion Picture “American Gun” in Hollywood, CA as a Casting and Production Assistant. He was involved in the pre-production, casting, shooting, and post-production. John Michael tends to think of it as his educational crash course of the movie industry.
